If you’re planning on going to the Gathering of The Vibes this week in Bridgeport be sure to bring a blanket, drink lots of water, and kill yourself. Yea that’s right I said it. This isn’t an attack on hippie festivals by any means but I can’t imagine anybody wanting to go to that. The headliner is Further. I just assumed that it was a side project from someone in the Grateful Dead then I looked it up and sure enough I was right. Looking at the lineup there are only a few names I even recognize. Jimmy Cliff, who I think is the “I Can See Clearly Now” guy. He’s still alive? Primus, who I kinda liked but am still not sure if they’re good or not. Robert Randolph and the Family Band can’t complain on that one they are solid. Umphrey’s Mcgee, who should probably be playing a street fair somewhere, and Little Feat who I keep wanting to like but just can’t make it through that “Dixie Chicken” song. None of this, save Robert Randolph, sounds appealing to me at all. To top it all off you have to go to Bridgeport where Chuck Norris is scared to walk around alone and I’m pretty sure they found a dead body on the festival grounds last year too. Awesome. If you’re planning on camping there then stay right where you are federal agents will be picking you up shortly and deporting you. We don’t need your kind here. Oh and can they have thought of a worse name for a festival? I mean honestly what the hell is the “Gathering of the Vibes”? What does that even mean? If a buddy of mine asked me to go to the gathering of the vibes with him I’d have to immediately punch him in the face regardless of the lineup. Chris Bro actually asked me to go to it so I can cover it for this blog. This was my exact reaction. I’m joking of course Chris Bro would never ask me to go there he’s a cool guy. On the other hand if you are going this weekend and you do read this blog don’t be offended keep coming back you can still read the blog I’ll allow it. The rest of you enjoy the weekend by doing something else. Anything else really and you should be having a good time.

Really? You don’t want to hang out with this guy all weekend?

Ten Songs – Friday Shuffle Edition

Well as you know every now and then I like to do a “Ten Songs” where I put my iPod on shuffle and let it ride. Maybe I’ll make it a Friday thing. My iPod has over 5,000 songs on it from just about every genre of music you can think of. I DJ on the side and have done sweet 16′s so there that kind of music too. Although I do like some of that music I’ll let you decide which one’s I really like and which one’s I have on there just for DJing purposes. So here it goes what will come up? Death metal? Laday Gaga? Let’s find out.

10. Elbow – The Bones Of You – I First saw Elbow at a festival a couple of years ago and fell in love instantly. Great band and great live too.

9. Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup – That’s All Right – One of the founders of blues. I ljust love these old blues recordings that were seemingly recorded with the very first recording equipment possible.

8. Godsmack – Asleep – How these guys basically became the soundtrack of the Navy is beyond me. But hey whatever works. This is off an acoustic album they did. Interesting if you’re into that type of thing.

7. Delta Spirit – People C’mon – These guys came in and did a Peak Performance. I couldn’t get to it though and am still disappointed. My favorite of their’s is “Streetwalker” check it out.

6. The Kooks – Shine On – They’ve got the best English accents since Herman’s Hermits. Pretty sure this song was used in a commercial though I can’t remember which one.

5. Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow – OK I’ll man up and admit it. I kind of like this song. Good to dance to and great to work out to. ”I’m so 2008 you’re so 2000 and late”.

4. Van Morrison – Crazy Love – I wonder how many couples have this as “their song”. I’d say maybe a billion.

3. Disturbed – Stricken – Wow two opposite ends of the spectrum here but hey that’s the beauty of the shuffle. Saw these guys live in my high school metal head days. The lead singer has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard live they were great.

2. Jay-Z – Big Pimpin – Somebody get me a bottle of Cristal. No not to drink to dump on a chick. I don’t care who you are or what you look like this song always makes you feel like a big shot when you blast it in your car.

1. The Raconteurs – Steady as She Goes (acoustic) – Love The Raconteurs. This is an acoustic version that’s pretty good. Does Jack White do anything bad? Oh tanning he’s not very good at that.

Wow that was a great Friday shuffle. We had Old blues, Metal, Hip Hop, and Alt stuff. Don’t judge me.

Songs I Love: Pearl Jam & The Felice Brothers

We talk music here. Sometimes other topics pop up but mainly music. One subject we have tackled is probably the most important musical test there is: The Car Test. Also know as the Driving Test. You’re in your car. Driving. The song is playing…does the song work? Does it make you want to forget the speed limit? Does it make the world disappear? Does it make you feel young again? The Car Test.

We have also mentioned another test. OK, mainly me, but that’s fine. I have another test. The “Front Porch” Test. Also know as the Drunk Test. The After the After Party Test. Songs you play after a night out or with just a few really close friends. Nothing too loud and nothing to soft. Like Baby Bear’s bed…just right. Songs you can talk with, or about, or that spark conversations. The Front Porch Test.

Rage Against The Machine -1 Immigration Law -0

Well it looks like the Arizona immigration law is being shut down by the courts and it’s all because of Rage Against The Machine. By the way why does Spinner.com only use that horrible picture of Zach De La Rocha? I mean seriously he looks like a serial killer. Anyway it didn’t take long for Rage to jump on the immigration law band wagon, you knew they would. They had signed on with a bunch of bands to not play in Arizona if the law went through. After looking at the list of other bands that will not come to Arizona it may actually backfire and force the law into effect even quicker. ”Wait we could get rid of the Mexicans and Kanye West? Pass the law quick!”. Personally I think we should start looking at everyone’s ID legal or not. Seriously there are some crazy people out there. Let’s just start weeding out crazy people in general who says they need to be illegal? I always liked Rage Against The Machine even though I have no idea what they’re talking about half the time. They could literally recite the alphabet as lyrics and I’d probably love it. Below is one of my personal favorites from rage. Who gave up the power in the first place and why we need to take it back I do not know but damn that baseline in the beginning is awesome. Careful at work they swear in this one. Then again if you’re at work then it means you’re part of the man and your part of the machine we’re all supposed to be raging against so screw you!
